For more than 8 years, I worked on nearly every aspect of how Amazon gets packages to customers. Picking software; Sortation / Conveyance software; Inventory Quality Control machine learning and tooling; Delivery (Flex) software. I spent a fun 18-month stint as a Deployment Engineering going on site to launch new sites and retrofit old sites with modern control software for sortation equipment. I’ve been inside over 40 Amazon facilities in five countries and can tell you in deep detail how it is Amazon gets you the item you ordered the same day you ordered it.

  • Languages: Experienced in multiple languages but capable of picking up whatever tech is needed. Most experienced in Java and Ruby/Rails; some adventures in Python and Typescript.
  • Machine Learning: Honours thesis in machine learning; operated one of Amazon’s largest ML systems (predicting inventory defects for billions of inventory storage bins).
  • A/B Testing: Technical lead for many A/B experiments at Shopify to improve new merchant success. Worked closely with A/B software and data teams to debug issues and improve the underlying system.
